3-Series Structural Bodywork
The intention of a 3 session series is to initiate change for the better in your posture, movement, your energy, and knowledge of how the body works. The 3-Series is a great introduction to structural bodywork. Maybe you have postural issues related to sitting at a computer or from past injuries; it’s also great for those who would like to fine tune, or have better mobility in their already athletic body; yoga practitioners who can’t quite get into that twist on one side or need a further range for your arms. Hockey or golf players who want to improve on their swing/shots; or you just want more ease in your own body in general. These sessions endeavor to illuminate possible causes of difficulties in troubles area which may have been previously overlooked or discounted.
They are a collaborative process between myself (the practitioner) and you (the client). It’s a conversation. Let’s be curious and together find more options for movement. We work on improvements in body awareness, alignment, soft tissue organization, tissue hydration and homeostatic balance. The goal is integration.
The 3 series uses the principles of Structural Integration to integrate the pelvic girdle, shoulder girdle and spine. Each session ends with gentle balancing work. Clients often leave each treatment feeling lighter or more grounded.
What to expect for each session:
Session 1:
Balance the lower body-foot, knee, hip alignment and function-
Territory-Foot to 12th rib
Session 2:
Balance the upper body-
Rib cage & shoulder girdle relationship
Territory-Lesser trochanter to hands
Session 3:
Primary and secondary curves-
Flexion/extension
Sidebends and Rotations
Territory-Spine and it’s guy wires
How to prepare for a session:
You will want to come to each session completely fragrance free and with absolutely no moisturizers, lotions, creams or oils recently applied to your skin. Integration and corrective bodywork is best received when wearing underwear. While every effort is made to make you feel comfortable and warm, there will be times during a session you will be asked to stand and notice the pleasant changes occurring in your body. This is part of the therapy. Most women wear a bra or sports bra, that gives access to the back, and underwear. A 2 piece bathing suit or yoga shorts is also appropriate. Men receive the work in boxers or briefs. Lori’s techniques help engage the nervous system and the brain’s natural neuroplasticity to encourage lasting change. Sessions will be 75-90 minutes long.
Signature Restorative Massage
This oil massage incorporates Swedish strokes, deep tissue, myofascial stretching and compression to give client a restorative and relaxing experience. By incorporating multiple styles or techniques I am able to hit those sweet spots in the deeper layers of muscle tissue for the ultimate in relaxation. It is designed to reach the larger sections of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibers.
Using deep muscle compression and glide along the grain of the muscle, the Restorative Massage is to unstick the fibers of the muscles and release deeply held tension points. Specific hand positions and strokes are used to respond to various tissues while breath and movement techniques are employed to release muscular congestion. It helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. It is both relaxing and therapeutic. It's restorative!
Enjoy this wonderfully thorough and releasing massage. I also recommend tea, Epsom salt and magnesium baths to help relieve muscles and aid in the integration and relaxation that happens after deep tissue bodywork.
Advanced Myofascial Release Techniques
Myofascial Release is a specialty to address fascial entrapment (connective tissue between and in your muscles). By using a variety of techniques and desires to reconnect/retrain the brain muscle connection this advanced therapy can provide deep, lasting relief from chronic pain/dysfunction and restore mobility and vitality. It is beneficial for many physical problems and is both corrective and therapeutic. I have used these techniques with great success dealing with TMJD, Headaches, Whiplash, Neck pain and mobility issues from surfing, driving or job related stress, and frozen shoulder or other shoulder issues. This session can be used to address one or more issues at it relates to the whole body and your global awareness of your body. These manual therapy techniques involve manipulation of the joints and tissues and are utilized to help relieve chronic/acute pain and achieve better range of movement. Releasing and unwinding the fascia (connective tissue) that surrounds each muscle and interconnects all of the other internal parts of the body can not only feel good but we are finding new ways to create options for movement, while making space for change in not only the body but the way the brain interprets it as well. These tissue layers, which connect every muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, and organ in our bodies, also store memories of physical trauma. Releasing these restrictions can allow us to discharge recurring emotional as well as physical pain. Some of us wait 20 years before addressing these issues and they won't get better overnight, but together we can work towards letting that old pain story go and enjoy some freedom of movement.
This involves testing, engaged communication between client and therapist, and a willingness to look for new ways to engage your body and braIn for maximum potential and hopefully freedom from pain.
I recommend 75 or 90 minutes and a commitment to your wellness.
CBD Oil
We use therapeutic grade organic CBD oil locally made in Big Sur.
Protect yourself from the damage of chronic inflammation.
A bit about CBD: Science has proven that chronic, low-grade inflammation can turn into a silent killer that contributes to cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and other conditions. Other research identifies how CBD may inhibit inflammatory and neuropathic pain, which are difficult to treat.
CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of the world’s most treasured natural resources, proven safe and effective by millions of consumers around the world. The cannabis plant features dozens of cannabinoids such as THC and CBD which interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system to produce a wide range of noted anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, antiviral, antiemetic, antitumoral and antioxidant benefits. In fact, from 1850 to 1937 the U.S. Pharmacopeia listed cannabis as the primary active ingredient in treating more than 100 separate illnesses and diseases.
Although cannabidiol oils aren’t absorbed into the bloodstream as with ingesting or inhalation, they’re still incredibly effective in drawing the beneficial cannabinoids into the cells. Cannabidiol may also greatly improve the quality of the skin when used topically. It may improve elasticity, help eliminate acne, and increase the blood flow to the skin which allows for faster healing of cuts and scrapes.
Because of these unique properties, cannabidiol is ideally suited as a companion for massage. By reducing pain, inflammation and anxiety, the body reaches deeper states of relaxation allowing for looser muscles and deeper massage. Osteopath Dustin Sulak, D.O., operates a large New England clinic where he has treated more than 18,000 patients with cannabis. In a 2015 interview with MASSAGE Magazine he noted there have been “numerous reports of topical cannabinoids working wonders for arthritic joints, tender points, muscle spasms, phantom limb pain, peripheral neuropathy and inflammatory skin conditions—
CBD is not the same as cannibis. One of hundreds of components in marijuana, CBD does not cause a "high" by itself. According to a report from the World Health Organization, "In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD."
Essential Wellness’ therapeutic CBD exclusively features the cannabinoid CBD combined with organic coconut oil in powerful compounds with numerous therapeutic qualities and zero psychoactive THC. As such, our CBD Massage is generally suitable for people of all legal ages, lifestyles, and massage needs.
